Mariners’ Randy Arozarena Placed on Injured List Due to Hamstring Strain

The Seattle Mariners are facing another setback as outfielder Randy Arozarena has been placed on the 10-day injured list due to a strained hamstring. Arozarena exited Friday's matchup against the Nationals after experiencing discomfort, and despite hopes that rest would alleviate the issue, he continued to feel pain earlier this week, prompting further evaluation.

Imaging results indicated more inflammation than initially anticipated, leading the team to make the decision to put Arozarena on the IL retroactive to June 13th. A key player for the Mariners, he has consistently been their top hitter, leading in several offensive metrics and providing stability as other teammates have struggled with injuries and performance issues. This news comes during a challenging season plagued by health concerns for the Mariners, making Arozarena's absence particularly impactful as he is also in a contract year.

Fortunately, general manager Justin Hollander remains optimistic, suggesting that Arozarena may not miss more than the minimum duration of his IL stint, especially since he was showing signs of improvement prior to the MRI. In a related move, the Mariners have called up Curtis Washington Jr. from Everett as an emergency replacement. Washington, a 19th-round pick from Purdue in 2022, has not yet found his stride in the minors but is recognized for his positive contributions off the field.

To accommodate Washington on the 40-man roster, infielder Will Wilson, who is dealing with a fractured left thumb, has been transferred to the 60-day injured list. Washington's promotion comes as the team adjusts to the ongoing injury crisis, with hopes that he can contribute during Arozarena’s absence.
