Mariners Smash Four Homers to Secure 5-1 Victory Over Diamondbacks
In a commanding performance at T-Mobile Park, the Seattle Mariners triumphed over the Arizona Diamondbacks with a score of 5-1 on Saturday. This victory marked the Mariners' fifth consecutive win and their second series win in a row, pushing their record to 30-29.
Manager Dan Wilson praised his team's recent surge in confidence, noting, “(Our confidence) started to grow, I think, in the Athletics series. Getting here at home in front of a sell-out crowd... feels really good.” The Mariners showcased a balanced attack, with both their pitching and offense performing exceptionally well.
The Mariners' offense was highlighted by four solo home runs, which made up the majority of their scoring. Right fielder Luke Raley kicked things off with his 13th home run of the season, followed by designated hitter Dominic Canzone, who added another to make it 2-0. Third baseman Jolt Emerson contributed his second career homer in the third inning, and center fielder Julio Rodriguez capped the scoring with his tenth home run, marking his third consecutive game with a long ball.
Pitcher Bryan Woo delivered an impressive performance, striking out nine batters over seven innings while allowing only two hits. “Honestly, everything (was working),” Woo remarked, praising catcher Mitch Garver's handling of the fastball. The Mariners' defense was also noteworthy, particularly first baseman Josh Naylor, who made a remarkable play on a fast grounder.
Seattle's additional run came in the sixth inning when second baseman Cole Young drove in left fielder Randy Arozarena with a sacrifice fly. The Diamondbacks managed a late run in the ninth, but it was not enough to alter the outcome. The Mariners will aim for their sixth straight win and a series sweep against Arizona in their next matchup on Sunday.
