Mason and Portland St. Patrick Claim District Baseball Championships
MASON — The Bulldogs of Mason secured the Division 1 district title with an impressive 17-0 victory over Jackson, highlighted by a remarkable 12-run third inning. Hunter Thorne led the charge with a perfect 2-for-2 performance, scoring three times. Travis Davis and Carter Kilmon each contributed two runs and two RBIs, while Ryan Myers drove in three runs. In their semifinal match, Mason dominated Battle Creek Lakeview with a 14-0 score, thanks to Carson Chapin's 4-for-4 day at the plate, which included two RBIs and a run scored. The Bulldogs are set to face DeWitt in the regional semifinal on Wednesday, June 3, at 5 p.m.
OVID-ELSIE captured the Division 3 district title by defeating Saginaw Valley Lutheran 11-8. Logan Brown was instrumental in the Marauders' success, hitting a home run and driving in four runs. Lance Wiktorowski not only earned the win but also contributed two hits and an RBI. Trey Palatka was a standout throughout the tournament, accumulating five hits and six RBIs across both games, while Brody Howard added a homer in a 13-3 semifinal victory over Carrollton. Ovid-Elsie will meet Perry in the regional semifinal, also on June 3 at 5 p.m.
In Division 4 action, Portland St. Patrick triumphed with a 9-0 win over Fowler, thanks to Brady Leonard's stellar pitching performance, which included six shutout innings and just two hits allowed. Leonard also recorded a double, two hits, and an RBI. TJ Chamberlain supported the effort with two hits and two RBIs, following a semifinal win against Lansing Christian.
Dansville defeated Vandercook Lake decisively with a score of 15-2, powered by Broady Scott's 3-for-4 showing that included four RBIs, while Nathan Sherwood added three RBIs for the Aggies. In a close Division 2 district final, Owosso fell to Saginaw Swan Valley 2-1, despite Jacob Doyle and Eden Ackley each collecting two hits. Ryan Maier, however, pitched a complete game shutout in a 1-0 win over Alma in the semifinals.
Springport also made headlines, claiming an 11-0 win over Laingsburg in the Division 3 district final, while Laingsburg had advanced with a 13-6 victory against Bath. In a semifinal clash, Springport narrowly edged Lansing Catholic 4-3, with Elijah Jungswirth leading the Cougars with two hits and an RBI.
