Mets' Alvarez Begins Rehab Assignment, Senga Set for Wednesday Return

This week, two key players from the New York Mets are set to continue their recovery journeys in Triple-A. Francisco Alvarez is scheduled to start a rehab assignment on Tuesday, where he will catch for four innings with the Syracuse team. This marks a significant milestone for Alvarez, who has been recovering from meniscus surgery performed on May 14.

Since the surgery, the young catcher has shown remarkable improvement. In the days leading up to his rehab assignment, he successfully participated in various activities, including hitting, catching bullpens, blocking, running the bases, and throwing. "It's pretty amazing to see," commented Carlos Mendoza, highlighting Alvarez's encouraging progress.

On Wednesday night, Kodai Senga will take the mound for his third rehab outing and second with Syracuse. The right-handed pitcher faced some challenges during his previous appearance, where he allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits and issued two walks over 3.2 innings. This time, he is anticipated to throw around 85 pitches, with Mendoza noting that the team's decision on Senga's next steps will depend on how he performs and feels after the game.

Senga has been out of action since late April due to inflammation in his lumbar spine, making this outing crucial for his return to the roster.
