Mookie Betts Reveals Petco Park as One of His Top Ballpark Favorites
Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Mookie Betts, who competes in one of Major League Baseball's iconic venues, has shared an unexpected preference for another West Coast stadium. During a discussion with Pittsburgh Pirates All-Star Ryan O’Hearn on his podcast "On Base with Mookie Betts," Betts revealed that Petco Park in San Diego ranks among his favorite ballparks, much to the surprise of some Dodgers fans.
The choice of Petco Park is particularly intriguing, especially given its connection to a controversial burger dubbed the "FTD," which many initially interpreted as derogatory towards the Dodgers. However, it was later clarified to stand for "For the Diegans," showcasing the local pride associated with the venue.
When asked about his admiration for Petco Park, Betts remarked, “I actually really love playing in Petco... It’s a beautiful stadium, bro,” highlighting its stunning design, enthusiastic fan base, and well-maintained field. He also concurred with O’Hearn on the park's exceptional grass and pleasant weather, along with the lively atmosphere created by the fans.
O’Hearn, who played 50 games for the Padres last season after his trade from the Baltimore Orioles, echoed these sentiments, noting the stadium's vibrant environment. Despite the competitive nature of games between the Padres and Dodgers, Betts appreciates the energy from the stands, stating that players can feel the crowd's engagement during the match.
Indeed, the atmosphere at Petco Park is electrifying, as O’Hearn pointed out, with the stadium often filled to capacity, creating an exhilarating experience for all involved. This combination of beauty and excitement seems to have left a lasting impression on Betts, making it a favorite destination for him in the league.
