Former Boston Red Sox star Mookie Betts has decided to deactivate his social media accounts after facing criticism for his performance this season. The two-time MVP and four-time World Series champion is experiencing a challenging start, prompting him to take this step earlier this week.

According to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, “Future Hall of Famer Mookie Betts is the latest player to delete his social media accounts with ugly comments from fans berating him for his early-season struggles, ignoring the fact he has helped the Dodgers win three World Series titles since his arrival.” While Betts currently holds an underwhelming batting average of .200 with six home runs and 16 RBIs over 24 games, his accolades include being an eight-time All-Star and instrumental in the Dodgers' success.

Despite his struggles, Betts remains optimistic and appreciative of the support from his teammates and the Dodgers’ organization. He noted the pressure he feels both externally and internally, stating, “Obviously, there’s a lot of pressure on the outside, pressure on the inside from me. My teammates, coaches, front office have all been super supportive, and trust and believe in me. But I know on the outside right now that’s not really the case.”

Betts expressed his disbelief at the negativity directed towards him, emphasizing the disconnect between fan support and criticism. “It’s like, how can you go cheer and then go and be so negative to somebody? But that’s the world today, and it just sucks sometimes,” he said. “It’s not like I’m out here trying to sabotage the team.”
