Mt. Zion’s Trump returning to state finals after junior year heartbreak
MT. ZION, Ill. (WCIA) — Wyatt Trump has been waiting all year for another chance to make it to O’Brien Field.
Trump took on the Class 2A state sectionals last year determined to qualify in all four of his events, namely his two hurdles, but missed out on all but the 4×800-meter relay.
“Last year sectionals was really tough for me,” said Trump. “But that having as like motivation to push through and get to a like understanding that, you know, it’s a lot on the body and it’s a lot to push through.”
This year, Trump qualified in all four events, including the 110-meter and the 300-meter hurdles, to make it to the Big Blue Track.
“Being my senior year, I’m really just trying to have fun with it, you know, enjoy the last meet I’ll have with my coach who’s been here for so long, the team that’s helped me push for so long,” said Trump.
Mt. Zion will compete in the Class 2A boys’ prelims on Friday, May 29 at EIU’s O’Brien Field.
