Nathan Ake Poised for Bournemouth Return as Tottenham Sparks Transfer Activity

Manchester City defender Nathan Ake appears set for a return to Bournemouth, where he previously played for four years. This move comes as Bournemouth looks to bolster its defense amid reports that Marcos Senesi is on the verge of joining Tottenham Hotspur.

The Cherries are seeking a central defender this summer, particularly after Senesi, who captained Bournemouth during their historic qualification for European competition, has reportedly agreed to a four-year contract with Spurs. Despite his impressive contributions last season, which included 39 appearances, he was not selected for Argentina's squad for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Having spent the last six years at Manchester City, Ake has accumulated an impressive trophy cabinet, including four Premier League titles and a UEFA Champions League title. As his contract nears its end, with just a year remaining, City is open to letting him go as they aim to reshape their team following Pep Guardiola's departure.

Ake originally joined Bournemouth on loan from Chelsea before making the move permanent in 2017. His performances at City since his £41 million transfer in 2020 have solidified his reputation as one of the top defenders in the Premier League, with 177 appearances to his name.

As Bournemouth prepares for his potential return, the club is also undergoing changes in management, with Andoni Iraola expected to leave at season's end. New head coach Marco Rose's tactical style could be a good fit for Ake, who thrives in versatile defensive roles. Meanwhile, Manchester City may need to address further gaps in their defense, with additional departures on the horizon, including speculation around Josko Gvardiol's future.
