Neshaminy and Butler Locked in a Tight Battle at PIAA 6A State Championship
Neshaminy and Butler are currently tied 1-1 after one and a half innings in the PIAA Class 6A state championship game held on Thursday night at Penn State. The game faced a delay of nearly two and a half hours due to adverse weather conditions.
The fourth-place finisher from District One, Neshaminy, managed to score their first run in the bottom of the first inning without a hit. Senior Mike Sassano started the play with a walk, advanced to second via a stolen base, and moved to third on a throwing error. He crossed home plate shortly after, thanks to a groundout from senior pitcher Chase Bonner.
Bonner, who has been recognized as the SOL Patriot Player of the Year twice, began the game strongly by retiring the first five batters, striking out four of them. However, he later faced challenges, walking four consecutive batters that allowed Butler to tie the game.
With a record of 20-7 before the championship, Neshaminy secured their spot in the finals after a 2-1 victory against Pennsbury in the semifinal match held at Villanova Ballpark. This championship marks the third time Neshaminy has reached the state semifinals under the guidance of head coach Dan Toner, having previously lost in 2019 and 2025.
On the other side, Butler, the District 7 champions with a record of 22-3, earned their place in the finals by defeating District One runner-up Owen J. Roberts 4-2 in their semifinal. This game is particularly significant for Butler, marking the school’s first appearance in a baseball final.
