Newcastle United Finalizes Deal for Goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen

Newcastle United has officially reached a preliminary agreement with Reims for the transfer of goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen. The deal, valued at €28.5 million, includes a four-year contract for the young talent, marking him as the club’s first acquisition of the upcoming transfer window.

Journalist Florian Plettenberg reports that the Magpies view Jaouen as a long-term investment, indicating that he will not immediately step into the role of first-choice goalkeeper. At just 20 years old, Jaouen began his journey with Reims as an academy player in 2023 and has gained valuable experience through two loan spells prior to establishing himself as the club’s starting keeper.

Jaouen has made a name for himself with his remarkable shot-stopping skills, achieving 15 clean sheets in 34 appearances in Ligue 2 last season. Despite previous speculation linking him to Chelsea, those rumors have been dismissed as the London club has no plans to pursue a goalkeeper this summer.

Newcastle aims to overhaul its goalkeeping lineup and is considering selling Nick Pope, who faced challenges last season. Ipswich Town and Leeds United are reportedly keeping an eye on Pope's situation. Potential replacements include James Trafford from Manchester City, Bart Verbruggen of Brighton & Hove Albion, and Lens' Robin Risser.

Additionally, Newcastle is looking to bolster its squad with the signing of a left winger following Anthony Gordon’s recent transfer to Barcelona. After finishing just outside the European qualification spots last season, the club is determined to strengthen its roster for the upcoming campaign.
