NFL insider hints at hidden message behind Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers’ retirement comments
Aaron Rodgers cleared up speculation about his NFL future with a retirement declaration, but one insider believes there may be more than meets the eye with the veteran Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback.
According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, Rodgers’ retirement comments weren't just made to address rumors about his future, but rather to send a message to the entire Steelers locker room: everybody needs to be all in.
“Aaron Rodgers never says anything accidentally,” Pelissero said via The Rich Eisen Show. “Whether he is, a decade ago, telling people to r-e-l-a-x. When it is calling out teammates, when it is making certain points about or not about football, everything that he says has a reason behind it. ... By saying, 'This is it', it also puts the rest of that locker room on notice. I need everything out of all of you because this is it.”
Pelissero continued that while Rodgers may truly mean what he said about retirement, the belief is that he made the statement to remind his teammates that he is here to “win it all right now.”
While some, like Fox Sports’ recent power rankings, may scoff at the idea of the Steelers chasing a Super Bowl championship in 2026, a completely overhauled roster, further motivated by Rodgers’ retirement comments, certainly won’t hurt Pittsburgh’s chances.
