Northern, Frankfort, East Hardy, Hampshire win; Moorefield sweeps; Calvary loses
PETERSBURG, W.Va. — No. 3 Northern put up three straight five-run innings late to rout Petersburg, 16-2, on Friday.
The Huskies (13-5) broke open a 1-1 game with their first five-run frame. They had a 13-6 edge in hits over Petersburg (7-14), and Hunter Beitzel took care of business on the mound with a complete-game effort.
Beitzel allowed two runs (one earned) on six hits in seven innings. He struck out four and walked two.
Hunter Livengood capped the Northern offense with a three-run home run in the seventh. He also doubled and finished with five RBIs.
Northern’s Landon Yoder was 4 for 5 with a double and two RBIs, and Jacob Chambers and Elliott Myers-Shirer both had multi-hit games.
Lukas Wolford singled twice for Petersburg. Kaleb Kuhn took the loss on the mound.
Northern is at No. 5 East Hardy (13-5) on Monday at 6 p.m.
Petersburg hosts Pendleton County on Monday at 6 p.m.
No. 1 Frankfort 12, Mtn. Ridge 2
SHORT GAP, W.Va. — No. 1 Frankfort plated 11 unanswered tallies for a five-inning romp of Mountain Ridge on Friday.
The Falcons (14-6) were led by Charleston signees Lanson Orndorf and Blake Jacobs, and Jaxon Hare and Cole Shanholtz, who all recorded multiple hits and runs batted in.
Hare tripled and drove in three runs, Shanholtz drove in three, Orndorf doubled twice with two ribbies, and Jacobs had a double and two RBIs.
Rhett Sensabaugh was the winning arm, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits in 3 1/3 frames. Braeden Laffey threw 1 2/3 shutout innings of relief.
John Wood took the loss for Mountain Ridge (4-13). Dane Van Slyke doubled and singled.
Frankfort is at Southern (8-9) on Monday at 4:30 p.m.
Mountain Ridge hosts Hancock on Saturday at 3 p.m.
No. 5 East Hardy 16, Tucker Co. 1
HAMBLETON, W.Va. — Mason Hamilton doubled twice, drove in four runs and scored three times to power No. 5 East Hrady to a four-inning romp of Tucker County on Friday.
Evan Hamilton also scored four times for East Hardy (13-5), Dayton Dove singled three times and drove in a pair, Shayne Sisler doubled and singled, and Levi Price doubled.
Dove was the winning arm, allowing a run on two hits in four innings with six strikeouts to one walk.
Tucker County’s Owen Helmick doubled. Josh Crossland was dealt the loss on the bump.
East Hardy hosts Clarke County, Virginia, on Saturday at noon.
No. 1 Hampshire 10, Berkeley Springs 1
ROMNEY, W.Va. — Channing Wilt's production came in threes, leading Hampshire to a win over Berkeley Springs on Friday.
Wilt went 3 for 3 with three RBIs and three stolen bases for the Trojans (12-7).
Brayden Hott and Brent Evans each had a pair of hits for Hampshire.
Brycin Cavey went the distance, allowing four unearned runs on three hits with no walks and three punchouts.
The Trojans host Martinsburg on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Moorefield 12-10, Tygarts Valley 4-0
MILL CREEK, W.Va. — Moorefield made quick work of Friday's doubleheader at Tygarts Valley, winning game one 12-4 and the finale 10-0 in five innings.
In the opener, the Yellow Jackets (12-6) overcame five errors by out-hitting Tygarts Valley 10-5.
The Jackets scored eight runs in the final two frames including five in the top of the seventh.
Eastyn Haines led Moorefield going 3 for 5 with three RBIs while Trevor Baldwin went 2 for 4 with two RBIs.
Blake Snyder tossed a complete game, allowing three earned runs on seven hits and two walks with a pair of strikeouts.
Adam Woods led the Bulldogs going 3 for 4.
He was charged with three earned runs in four innings on the bump.
In the finale, seven players each recorded a hit for Moorefield.
The biggest came in the third inning on a lead-off home run from Edison Metheny.
Trevor Baldwin tossed five shutout frames, allowing four hits and a walk with eight strikeouts.
The Yellow Jackets head to Tucker County on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
Grace 20, Calvary 5
HAGERSTOWN — Grace's 12-run second inning led to a four-inning win over Calvary on Friday.
In the second, the Knights had 13 consecutive batters reach base before the first out.
Grace scored 10 runs before the initial out on seven hits, three errors, two walks and a hit batter.
Landon Michalak finished 5 for 5 with three RBIs for Grace.
