Oklahoma City Thunder Likely to Trade Lu Dort Amid Financial Tightening
The Oklahoma City Thunder are facing financial constraints as they head into the offseason, which could lead to the departure of one of their starters. In a recent analysis by John Hollinger on The Athletic, it is suggested that Lu Dort may be traded this summer as part of a cost-cutting strategy.
Dort is due for a $17 million team option next season, and Hollinger anticipates that the Thunder will exercise this option before seeking a trade that would provide them with cap relief and additional draft assets. "Here’s the thing: The Thunder can’t afford to keep him at this price, or any price, really, as they’re $28 million over next year’s second apron even without him," Hollinger noted. He further emphasized that the team has sufficient depth at Dort's position and must make room for two more first-round draft picks.
As the offseason progresses, more updates will follow regarding the Thunder's roster moves and strategic decisions.
