One Knox Secures Victory Over New York with Tenacious Goals
In a display of resilience and determination, One Knox triumphed over the New York Cosmos with a 3-1 victory at Covenant Health Park on June 13. Head coach Ian Fuller praised forward Denis Krioutchenkov for his goal-scoring prowess, particularly noting the unique way he found the net in the 36th minute. Krioutchenkov intercepted a goal kick from Cosmos’ keeper, resulting in an unexpected bounce that sent the ball into the net, highlighting his instinctive play.
The match opened with One Knox taking the lead in the 19th minute. Babacar Diene was awarded a penalty kick after a foul by New York, and although his initial attempt was saved, he quickly followed up to score. New York nearly equalized shortly after when Lamin Jawneh had a one-on-one with Knoxville keeper Johan Garibay but missed the target, allowing One Knox to maintain their advantage.
Krioutchenkov's opportunistic goal doubled the lead for One Knox before halftime. “Denis got his reward for taking that chance,” said Fuller, emphasizing the importance of his effort in the game. The Cosmos managed to break through with a goal from Davide Galazzini in the 51st minute, striking into the top-left corner. However, One Knox quickly regained a two-goal lead when Mikkel Gøling scored off a rebound in the 73rd minute, following a shot from Teddy Baker that was deflected by the keeper.
The victory marked the end of a successful three-match homestand for One Knox, who has now accumulated 27 points this season. Gøling, who earned the title of man of the match, expressed his relief and joy at scoring his first league goal of the season, stating, “It’s been long waiting... I feel so happy about that.” One Knox will next face Spokane Velocity FC on June 20.
