Owen Ayers Shines in Cubs Minor League Action

CHATTANOOGA, TN - In an exciting showcase of talent, Owen Ayers of the Knoxville Smokies had a standout performance in a doubleheader against the Montgomery Biscuits, demonstrating why he is one of the top prospects in the Cubs' system. The Smokies split the series, losing the first game 10-6 but bouncing back to win the second 10-8.

In game one, Ayers excelled at the plate, going 4 for 4 with three doubles and driving in three runs. His offensive prowess continued in the second game, where he contributed with an RBI single in the first inning and later hit a two-run home run in the sixth, marking his 17th homer of the season. Ayers has been on a tear in June, boasting an impressive batting average of .586 over the past eight games.

In other action, the Iowa Cubs faced a tough loss against the Louisville Bats, suffering a staggering 20-5 defeat. Starter Jordan Wicks was charged with the loss after allowing eight runs, four of which were unearned due to his own error. Despite the setback, shortstop Ben Cowles and third baseman James Triantos each had solid outings, contributing with multiple hits and runs.

The South Bend Cubs also celebrated a victory, defeating the Peoria Chiefs 5-3, which brings their magic number for clinching a first-half division title down to three. Josiah Hartshorn was a key player in this matchup, hitting a two-run home run and driving in a total of three runs.

Meanwhile, the Myrtle Beach Pelicans snapped an eight-game losing streak with a 5-2 win over the Augusta GreenJackets, thanks to strong pitching performances from Braylon Myers and Hayden Frank.
