Patrick Ricard calls Derrick Henry ‘Cybertruck’ in praise
Ricard Reflects on Derrick Henry Experience in Baltimore
Not many fullbacks get the chance to lead block for a generational talent, but Patrick Ricard did, and he’s not taking it for granted.
Appearing on Jordan Schultz’s podcast, Ricard opened up about what it was like sharing the backfield with Derrick Henry, and why the experience was unlike anything he’s had in his career.
“It was a dream come true to play with the king… I think he's going to be a Hall of Fame player… just one of the best… I call him Cybertruck because he's built like a truck… as soon as he gets that ball, he's trying to go 100 miles an hour… if I'm not on my guy right away… he will shove me and push me to the ground… I've never had anybody like that… usually they'll kind of put their hand on the back… not him… he'll knock me down… so if anything, it helped me out.”
For Ricard, it wasn’t just about blocking for one of the league’s most dominant backs; it was about adjusting to a completely different level of physicality. Henry’s downhill style demanded precision, urgency, and toughness on every snap.
And in the end, even those extra hits from behind made Ricard sharper, a reminder that playing with greatness sometimes forces you to elevate your own game.
