Patriots May Eye Rams Tight End Colby Parkinson as Potential Addition
The Los Angeles Rams experienced a standout season from tight end Colby Parkinson, who emerged as a significant contributor during the 2025 campaign. Over the course of 15 games, the 27-year-old achieved personal bests with 43 receptions for 408 yards and eight touchdowns, showcasing his ability as a formidable red-zone target for quarterback Matthew Stafford.
Despite his impressive performance, there are indications that Parkinson's position with the Rams could be precarious. NFL analyst Alex Kay from Bleacher Report has identified him as a potential cut candidate as the team approaches training camp in July. "While McVay could elect to carry an extra tight end, Parkinson's contract structure and the team's depth at the position make him one of the more notable veterans who could become expendable before Week 1," Kay noted.
With Tyler Higbee still on the roster and the emergence of 2025 second-round pick Terrance Ferguson, the Rams might consider releasing Parkinson, especially given that his base salary is not guaranteed this season. Cutting him would free up $7 million in cap space for the team.
If Parkinson were to become available, Kay suggests the New England Patriots could be a viable destination for the tight end. "Should he reach free agency, the New England Patriots would make sense as a potential landing spot," Kay stated. While the Patriots have made strides in their receiving corps, questions remain at tight end behind veteran Hunter Henry and rookie Eli Raridon.
Acquiring Parkinson could provide the Patriots with a valuable receiving option, especially given his affordability. However, with the selection of Raridon in the third round of the recent draft and Henry's successful 2025 season—where he recorded 768 yards and seven touchdowns—investing further in the tight end position may not align with the team's current priorities. Instead, enhancing the defensive front or bolstering the offensive line might serve as more critical needs for New England at this juncture.
