Browns Coach Highlights Shedeur Sanders' Key Improvements Ahead of Training Camp
As training camp approaches, attention turns to Shedeur Sanders, who is vying for the starting quarterback position with Deshaun Watson on the Cleveland Browns. While some analysts suggest Watson holds the upper hand, Sanders' performance last season, where he recorded 1,400 passing yards, seven touchdowns, and ten interceptions with a 3-4 record, has sparked the interest of Browns supporters eager to see what he can achieve over a full season.
This offseason is pivotal for Sanders, and according to Browns quarterbacks coach Mike Bajakian, he has been diligently working on his skills. During a press conference on Thursday, Bajakian shared insights into Sanders' progress, stating, "I’d say over the past 10 or 12 weeks, he’s done a great job of defining his footwork, playing with a base, learning the offense, and working his butt off to really master his craft — and it’s been fun to watch.”
Bajakian praised Sanders for his rapid improvement, noting, “He’s done a really good job. He’s [trending upward]. He’s getting through progressions, getting through progressions faster, and his feet are matching that mindset.”
If Sanders secures the starting role, he will benefit from an enhanced supporting cast compared to last year. The Browns have bolstered their offensive line by acquiring former Houston Texans tackle Tytus Howard, along with former Los Angeles Chargers guard Zion Johnson, ex-Chicago Bears guard Teven Jenkins, and former Green Bay Packers center Elgton Jenkins. Additionally, they drafted first-round tackle Spencer Fano, third-round tackle Austin Barber, and fifth-round center Parker Brailsford in the 2026 draft.
Moreover, Cleveland has added several new offensive weapons, including first-round wide receiver KC Concepcion, second-round wideout Denzel Boston, fifth-round tight end Joe Ryer, and free-agent receiver Tylan Wallace. With Bajakian's comments highlighting Sanders' development, the competition for the quarterback spot in Cleveland could become quite intense, making training camp snaps and preseason opportunities all the more critical.
