Claremore Falls Short After Rally Against Bartlesville in Softball Clash
In the world of summer-league softball, a five-run deficit can feel daunting, yet the Claremore Lady Zebras showcased their determination on Tuesday afternoon. After trailing 5-0 through the first inning and a half, Claremore fought back but ultimately succumbed to Bartlesville, finishing the game at 5-3.
Despite the loss, Claremore managed to outhit Bartlesville 6-3, demonstrating their resilience following a challenging start. The Lady Bruins capitalized on several timely hits, walks, and defensive errors, which helped them build their early lead. Claire Pilkington was a standout performer for the Lady Zebras, contributing two hits, while Alexis Morton and Kinley Stegall each recorded an RBI. Shayne Schornick also played a pivotal role in Claremore's second-inning rally.
In relief, Morton proved effective, allowing no runs and just one hit over the last two innings while striking out two batters. Shaylee Huey, who started the game, took the loss after giving up five runs, three of which were earned, on three hits in two innings pitched.
Bartlesville wasted no time in taking control of the game. They opened the scoring with a leadoff walk followed by an RBI double. A subsequent walk and a Claremore error brought in another run, and an RBI triple extended their lead to 3-0. The Lady Bruins added two more runs before Claremore began to mount their comeback in the second inning.
Claremore's response started with Tilly Andrews reaching base on an error, leading to an RBI double from Stegall, which cut the deficit to 5-1. Following this, Schornick's bunt and a catcher error allowed another run to score. Morton entered the pitching circle and stabilized the game, paving the way for Claremore's third-inning rally that saw them narrow the gap to 5-3.
Despite a strong effort in the fourth inning, including a single from Schornick, Claremore was unable to find the tying run, concluding the game with Bartlesville securing the win. This match highlighted Claremore's fighting spirit even in the face of adversity.
