Philadelphia 76ers draft history: Trading for Kyle Korver in 2003
With the NBA draft right around the corner, now is the time to look at some past drafts and see what the Philadelphia 76ers have done in their history. The Sixers have selected some big-time players in the past who have become an important part of the fabric of the franchise's history.
Coming off a 48-34 season and a Round 2 exit to the hands of the Detroit Pistons, the Sixers entered the 2003 draft looking to add more to the roster. They found a sharpshooter thanks to a trade with the then-New Jersey Nets. They sent cash considerations to New Jersey in exchange for the draft rights to Kyle Korver, the No. 51 pick of that draft.
In his rookie season, Korver didn't play much, but he was a playoff starter for Philadelphia in 2005. He averaged 11.5 points and 4.6 rebounds along with 2.2 assists while shooting 40.5% from deep in the 2004-05 season which then led to him starting all five games for the Sixers in the Round 1 loss to the then defending champion Detroit Pistons.
All in all, Korver averaged 10.5 points and 3.2 rebounds while shooting 40.9% from deep across 4-plus seasons. He is 4th all-time in Sixers history with 661 made 3-pointers.
Korver ended up playing 17 years in the league. Along with the Sixers, he played for the Utah Jazz, the Atlanta Hawks, the Chicago Bulls, the Cleveland Cavaliers, and the Milwaukee Bucks. He was a key part of two Cavs teams that reached the finals in 2017 and 2018.
