Pirates Roster Moves: O’Hearn to IL, Mangum Returns
The Pittsburgh Pirates have placed outfielder/first baseman Ryan O’Hearn on the 10-day injured list with a right quad strain and reinstated outfielder Jake Mangum from the 10-day IL.
O’Hearn left Saturday’s game against the Philadelphia Phillies after three innings with what was described as right quad tightness. The injury occurred while coming in to field a pop fly in the second inning and O’Hearn was awaiting results of an MRI following the game.
O’Hearn’s absence is a big blow to Pittsburgh’s offense. The 32-year-old is slashing .289/.368/.459 with six doubles, seven home runs and 29 RBI in 44 games in his first year with the Pirates.
O’Hearn has served primarily as the team’s starting right fielder and has also played several games at first base.
Mangum was placed on the IL with a left hamstring strain on May 8 (retro to May 6). In 30 games prior to landing on the shelf, he hit .260/.333/.288 with two doubles, three RBI, 13 runs and five steals. The 30-year-old has played all three outfield spots this season.
