Purdue Basketball Kicks Off Summer Practices with Fresh Faces
Purdue basketball returned to the court on Tuesday, marking the start of their summer practice sessions. This year brings a revamped roster as the team bids farewell to key players Braden Smith, Fletcher Loyer, and Trey Kaufman-Renn, who have been integral to the lineup in recent seasons.
The new squad features an exciting recruiting class alongside a notable transfer, Caden Pierce, and two players who have spent the previous season redshirting, gaining valuable experience during practices. A significant point of interest will be CJ Cox, who is poised to step into a leadership role and is expected to remain a fixture in the starting five.
With the remaining four starting positions still open, there is ample opportunity for players to compete for minutes on the court. Although the team is undergoing a transformation, there is a wealth of talent present, which brings with it a set of expectations for the upcoming season. Summer practices are crucial for fostering team chemistry and honing skills as they prepare for the challenges ahead.
Following practice on Tuesday, several players and head coach Matt Painter shared their thoughts, including insights from Daniel Jacobsen, Jack Benter, Raleigh Burgess, and CJ Cox, as they embark on this new chapter in Purdue basketball.
