Purdue's Sam Dubwig Aims for Starting Role as Punter in 2026 Season

Purdue Boilermakers punter Sam Dubwig, wearing jersey number 95, showcased his skills during the spring showcase on April 12, 2025, at Ross-Ade Stadium in West Lafayette, Indiana. With a solid background in punting, Dubwig is looking to establish himself in the upcoming football season.

Standing at 6 feet 4 inches and weighing 215 pounds, Dubwig hails from Cabot, Arkansas, where he attended Cabot High School. As a senior, he achieved impressive statistics, averaging 46.1 yards per punt and successfully landing 23 of his kicks inside the 20-yard line. For his outstanding performance, he earned the title of All-American Punter.

After redshirting his freshman year in 2024 at Arkansas, Dubwig transferred to Purdue for the 2025 season but did not see game action. As the 2026 campaign approaches, he will be vying for the starting punter position against fellow sophomore Dylan Drennan. While both players possess strong kicking abilities, Drennan brings additional experience, having completed 65 punts last season at Buffalo.

The punting role holds significant importance for Purdue, especially as the team navigates its offensive strategy. The ability to effectively pin opponents deep in their territory could greatly influence their game outcomes. As the adage goes, "punting is winning," and Dubwig's performance will be crucial for the Boilermakers' success this season.
