Rangers Extend Winning Streak to Five with Late Surge Against Cardinals
The Texas Rangers have been making waves in Major League Baseball, continuing their impressive form into June with a fifth consecutive victory. On Tuesday night, the Rangers overcame the St. Louis Cardinals, triumphing 7-4 at Busch Stadium after a dramatic ninth inning rally.
Joc Pederson led the charge for Texas, finishing the game with three hits, including two doubles, two runs batted in, and a run scored. Kyle Higashioka also contributed significantly, going 3-for-4 with a double and a run. The decisive moments unfolded in the ninth, where Pederson's single to left field brought home Evan Carter, propelling the Rangers ahead by a score of 5-4.
Adding to the Rangers' momentum, Josh Jung's single to right allowed Michael Helman to cross the plate, pushing the lead to 6-4. Brandon Nimmo followed with a sacrifice fly, sealing the game's outcome at 7-4. The Cardinals were unable to mount a comeback, resulting in Texas's fifth straight win.
On the mound, Nathan Eovaldi pitched six innings, conceding 11 hits and four earned runs while striking out seven, though he did not earn a decision. Jalen Beeks provided solid relief, allowing just one hit and striking out two over 1.2 innings. Cal Quantrill, who secured the victory to improve his season record to 3-0, pitched one-third of an inning, while Jakob Junis capped the game with a flawless ninth inning.
Cardinals starter Dustin May also did not receive a decision, scattering five hits and three earned runs over 5.2 innings with nine strikeouts. However, the ninth inning proved troublesome for reliever Riley O'Brien, who surrendered three hits and three earned runs.
With a 4-for-10 performance with runners in scoring position, the Rangers capitalized on their opportunities, while the Cardinals struggled, going 3-for-14 and leaving 11 runners stranded. Currently two games behind in the American League West Division, the Rangers are in prime position to challenge for the top spot, especially if they maintain their winning momentum.
