The Boston Red Sox were unable to get it done at home on Tuesday night despite holding the Philadelphia Phillies to just two runs.
The Red Sox were only able to plate one runner on seven hits. Cedanne Rafaela earned the lone RBI on a single to right field that scored Mickey Gasper, who was on second.
A rally was thwarted in the bottom of the ninth inning after Boston got a runner on first and second with only one out.
If there were a bright side, it would be that the struggling Brayan Bello has looked like a new player since interim manager Chad Tracy started using an opener on his day in the rotation.
Last week, Bello took the ball from the opener and took the Red Sox all the way into the ninth inning, surrendering just one run on four hits.
Tuesday night was more of the same. Bello threw six and one-third innings, striking out five batters and allowing just one run once again. After giving up a run in his first inning on the mound, Bello was to throw five scoreless frames before giving the ball to Tyler Samaniego in the eighth.
The Red Sox have now failed to produce more than two runs in three straight games.
