Red Sox Make Major Move, Send Brayan Bello to Triple-A
The Boston Red Sox have made the decision to demote 27-year-old pitcher Brayan Bello to Triple-A following his disappointing performance this season. Bello's struggles culminated in a rough outing against the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday, where he surrendered eight earned runs. The news was first reported by Dan Roche of WBZ.
"Brayan Bello was optioned to the Triple-A WooSox after today’s Red Sox loss to the Orioles - sources tell WBZ," Roche shared via social media on Thursday evening.
Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com later corroborated Roche's report, stating, "Red Sox optioned Brayan Bello to Triple A after his poor start, source confirms. [Dan Roche] first."
Despite his overall season numbers showing a 0.71 ERA in 25 1/3 innings pitched when not starting, Bello's performance as a starter has been markedly less effective. Following his latest outing, he expressed frustration over discussions regarding his role. "Just stop talking about bullpen and starting games. I’ve always been a starter," he said through a translator. "I’m just having a bad season. But I know I can turn it around. I always have. And I think I will.”
While this season has been challenging for Bello, the demotion presents him with an opportunity to regroup and regain his form without the added pressure of being in the major league rotation.
