Red Sox Reliever Garrett Whitlock Set to Start Rehab Assignment

The Boston Red Sox are on the verge of bolstering their already impressive bullpen as veteran reliever Garrett Whitlock prepares to make his return from injury. This season, the Red Sox bullpen has stood out with a remarkable 3.03 ERA, ranking as the second-best in Major League Baseball.

Whitlock, who is 29 years old, was placed on the 15-day injured list due to left knee inflammation back in late May. His last appearance on the mound for Boston was on May 24. The right-handed pitcher has been an integral part of the team’s bullpen and has demonstrated his effectiveness this season with a 3.20 ERA and 25 strikeouts in 20 games.

According to Tim Healey of The Boston Globe, Whitlock is now ready to take a significant step in his recovery by starting a rehab assignment. “Garrett Whitlock will make a rehab appearance for Triple-A Worcester tomorrow, Chad Tracy said,” Healey reported on Friday. “TBD if it’s a one-off or he makes another before being activated.”

While it remains uncertain whether Saturday's outing will be Whitlock's only rehab appearance, his imminent return is a positive development for the Red Sox. The addition of Whitlock will provide Boston with another reliable arm for crucial moments as they aim for success in the upcoming games.
