Red Wings Prospect Michal Svrcek Signs with Windsor Spitfires

Michal Svrcek, a promising Slovak left winger and recent draft pick by the Detroit Red Wings, is set to showcase his skills in the Canadian Hockey League with the Windsor Spitfires. The Red Wings selected Svrcek in the fourth round of the 2025 NHL Draft, taking him 119th overall, and his new contract with the Spitfires will cover the 2026-27 season. Windsor chose him 53rd in the recent CHL Import Draft.

Last season, Svrcek played for Brynas in the Swedish Hockey League, where he had a noteworthy performance, scoring six goals and accumulating 18 points in just 11 games with the junior team. However, his time with the senior squad was less fruitful, as he failed to find the net in 10 appearances. He also spent time on loan to Vasteras IK in HockeyAllsvenskan, where he played 12 games without scoring.

Known for his relentless play style, Svrcek is praised for his high energy and dedication to forechecking. At around 5-foot-10, he leverages his speed effectively, and there are expectations that he could develop into a middle-six forward, or at the very least, become a tenacious checker.

On the international stage, Svrcek has represented Slovakia at both the U18 World Championships, where he scored two goals and provided two assists in seven games, and the World Junior Championships, where he tallied one goal and one assist in five games. Bill Bowler, the General Manager of the Spitfires, expressed enthusiasm about Svrcek's potential, stating, “Svrcek is a world junior talent and will make an immediate impact with our club.”
