Aston Martin are set out to complete only a few laps at the Formula One season opener Australian Grand Prix on Sunday, according to Motorsport Italia.

The report said on Monday that the team is considering the controversial call amid ongoing reliability issues and lack of spare parts.

Throughout testing in Bahrain last month, Aston Martin completed the lowest lap count of any teams after serious concerns were raised about the reliability of the new car.

This issues aren't expected to be solved before the Australian GP and there are internal concerns that the car won't be able to finish the 58-lap race.

Aston Martin could face severe penalties if they pull out of the race. Therefore, according to Motorsport, they hope that Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll can complete the minimum required number of laps.
