Rising Star Jakson Fogelson Shines at MGA Men's Qualifier

BEMIDJI — Jakson Fogelson showcased his golfing talent at the Minnesota Golf Association Men's Qualifier on Monday, securing a spot in the next round. The rising freshman from Bemidji High School delivered an impressive performance, finishing with a 2-under-par score of 70, which placed him in a tie for third overall.

Fogelson's score left him just two shots behind Rylin Petry, who claimed second place, and four strokes away from the top position held by Ryan Engel. Tied with Fogelson were Teagan LaPlante from Bemidji State and North Dakota State’s Carter White. Both Joe Kortan and Drew Gumlia from North Dakota also made the cut, each finishing with a score of 71, allowing them to secure one of the six qualifying spots.

Remarkably, Fogelson stands out as the youngest participant among the qualifiers, with Engel set to graduate from Bemidji State in 2024, while Petry recently completed his senior year at NDSU after transferring from BSU three years ago. In contrast, Fogelson is just beginning his high school journey.

Other notable performances included BHS rising junior Beckett Grand, who finished 5-over par with a score of 77. Fellow competitors Jeff Thompson and Chris Hennum recorded scores of 79 and 80, respectively, while Ryan Daman rounded out the Bemidji contingent with an 82.
