Robertson Shares Emotional Letter from Diogo Jota's Widow Ahead of World Cup
The tragic passing of Diogo Jota and his brother André Silva on July 3 of last year has resurfaced in the news. Andrew Robertson, a close friend of the late Liverpool forward, recently disclosed that he received a heartfelt letter from Rute Cardoso, Jota's widow, just before he stepped onto the pitch with Scotland for the FIFA World Cup.
In her letter, Cardoso expressed her support and reminded Robertson that he would not be alone during this significant moment in his career. Both players had aspired to participate in their first World Cup together, but only Robertson, now with Tottenham, will have that opportunity.
Jota was a key figure for the Portuguese national team, which easily qualified for the tournament. In contrast, Robertson's Scotland team battled hard for their place, clinching qualification in the final match against Denmark, where Scott McTominay dazzled with a bicycle kick and Kenny McLean contributed a goal from midfield.
This marks Scotland's return to the World Cup after a 26-year absence, with their last appearance dating back to 1998 in France. In Group C, Scotland will face Brazil, Morocco, and Haiti, starting with their match against Haiti on Saturday, November 13, at 10 p.m. Brasília time.
