Rockies Consider New Mascot Race Inspired by Fans and Local Culture

After a recent series loss to the Milwaukee Brewers, the Rockies are contemplating a fresh tradition inspired by the Brewers’ popular Famous Racing Sausages. This entertaining race features five different sausages zipping around the warning track at American Family Field during the sixth inning. Similar mascot races are a common sight throughout Major League Baseball, with events like the Presidents Race in Washington and the Pierogi Race in Pittsburgh adding to the fun.

It has been quite some time since the Rockies hosted the Comfort Dental Tooth Trot, which featured characters like Toothy the Tooth and Bristles the Toothbrush. Many believe it's time to introduce a new mascot race at Coors Field that reflects the spirit and culture of Colorado. Here are some entertaining ideas being tossed around:

One suggestion is to create a race featuring beloved blue characters such as Blucifer and the Big Blue Bear. To diversify the lineup, other local icons, like dancers from the Denver Center for Performing Arts and even a dustpan from the Denver Art Museum, could join the competition.

Another creative concept involves local legends, where mascots embodying figures like Frank Azar and Tom Shane compete in a fun race around the field. Food-themed mascots could also make an appearance, with contenders like a cheeseburger, a Casa Bonita sopapilla, and a Denver omelet vying for the top spot. As amusing as it might sound, certain infamous Colorado foods are best left out of the race.

Additionally, the world of animation could inspire a South Park-themed race featuring characters like Cartman and Kenny, each with their own comedic mishaps during the competition. A beer-themed race, pitting various local brews against each other, has also been proposed, promising to draw interest from fans and local breweries alike.

As the Rockies weigh their options for a replacement for the Tooth Trot, fans are encouraged to share their ideas for potential mascots that would capture the essence of Denver and Colorado. What anthropomorphic characters would you like to see take on the challenge?
