Roman Anthony's Recovery Stalls Amid Injury Concerns for Red Sox

It has been nearly a month since the Boston Red Sox faced a setback with second-year outfielder Roman Anthony, who has been sidelined due to a perplexing hand injury. Initially placed on the 10-day injured list on May 7 due to what was termed a "right wrist sprain," Anthony later revealed in a conversation with WEEI's Rob Bradford that he is dealing with a "partially torn ring finger ligament."

While it seemed that Anthony was making strides in his recovery after taking batting practice last week, he experienced renewed discomfort in his hand. MassLive's Christopher Smith reported that since this setback, there has been no advancement in his condition, and no timeline has been established for the next phase of his rehabilitation.

"Red Sox left fielder Roman Anthony has still not swung a bat since last Thursday," Smith noted on Wednesday, highlighting the continued challenges the young player is facing. "Boston did not send the 22-year-old for any additional imaging after the latest setback. No date has been set for when he will attempt to swing again."

Interim manager Chad Tracy echoed these sentiments, stating that Anthony's return hinges on his comfort level. “I think right now the time frame is when we feel like, ‘Hey, this is starting to feel pretty good, we try again,’” Tracy explained. “We have to wait until it feels better before we can move forward.”

Despite facing difficulties this season with a batting line of .229/.354/.321, including one home run and five RBIs over 30 games, Anthony remains a key asset for the Red Sox as they aim for a playoff berth.
