Ronald Acuña Jr. Faces Another Injury Concern After Leaving Game Against White Sox
The Atlanta Braves are holding their breath as star outfielder Ronald Acuña Jr. left Tuesday's game against the Chicago White Sox due to a suspected lower-leg injury. This latest incident occurred in the fourth inning when Acuña hit a grounder deep into the infield. After White Sox third baseman Miguel Vargas fielded the ball and made a throw to first base, Acuña seemed to start limping just steps before reaching the bag.
His frustration was evident as he removed his batting gloves and exited the field with a noticeable limp, heading straight to the visitors’ clubhouse. Eli White took over for him in right field while the team’s trainers and coaches assessed the situation. The exact nature and severity of Acuña's injury were not immediately clear following his departure.
This injury scare adds to a challenging history of health issues for Acuña, who missed a significant portion of the 2022 season after tearing his ACL. Since his return, he has also faced challenges with hamstring, Achilles, and thumb injuries. Earlier this season, Acuña was sidelined due to a hamstring strain and later left a game against Miami with a thumb bruise, although subsequent X-rays came back negative.
Despite these setbacks, Acuña had been striving to reclaim his top performance, showcasing his exceptional skills that earned him a place as one of baseball's most exciting players. In 2023, he achieved a remarkable season with 40 home runs and 70 stolen bases, solidifying his status as a five-time All-Star and former MVP.
For the Braves, the hope remains that this latest scare is minor. However, given Acuña’s injury history and the visible discomfort he displayed while leaving the field, the team is anxiously awaiting further updates from medical staff in the hours to come.
