Jac Caglianone didn't have the rookie season everyone hoped for with the Kansas City Royals.

But if anything can be taken from Spring Training, it's that Caglianone might be ready to take Major League Baseball by storm.

Caglianone is putting up exit velocity totals in the spring that no one else is.

Specifically, this stat from Sarah Langs is remarkable:

  • There have been eight batted balls of 115 miles per hour or higher exit velocity this spring.
  • Caglianone has three of them, and is the only player with multiple.

Those three for Caglianone:

  • 120.2 MPH double
  • 116.5 MPH double
  • 115.2 MPH home run

Yeah, the kid is special.

Caglianone has traveled a slightly different path to this point than many sluggers. In college at Florida, he was actually a two-way player, also throwing heat on the mound.

When he came to pro ball, that meant he had to get used to being a hitter all the time and not pitching.

He's also getting adjusted for a potential full-time outfield role in the season ahead after spending some time at first base.

There are definitely still moving parts when it comes to Caglianone's future, but it seems pretty clear that he can hit the ball as hard as anyone in baseball. And as time goes on, that should work out well for him.
