Rutgers Secures Commitment from 2027 Defensive End Josiah Sturdivant
In a promising move for their future, Rutgers has welcomed defensive end Josiah Sturdivant into their 2027 recruiting class. The announcement was made by Sturdivant on Sunday, marking a significant addition for the Scarlet Knights.
Sturdivant, who is 6-foot-4, had garnered interest from several other programs, including Old Dominion, East Carolina, James Madison, Kent State, and Furman. Although he had planned two additional visits, he has opted to cancel those in favor of joining Rutgers, making him the tenth recruit in the 2027 class.
This weekend, Sturdivant visited the Rutgers campus officially after being pursued by tight ends coach Scott Vallone. His recruitment gained momentum when defensive coordinator Travis Johansen personally scouted him, leading to the first Power Five scholarship offer extended to Sturdivant back in May.
During his junior season at Wake Forest High School, Sturdivant showcased his skills impressively, recording 51 tackles, including 15.5 tackles for loss, along with eight sacks and a forced fumble. He becomes the second recruit from North Carolina, joining linebacker Moses Poku-Kankam, and adds to the defensive roster alongside safety Trent Buttles.
