Ryan Blaney Accepts Responsibility for Dramatic Crash Involving Reddick and Elliott at Nashville
During the closing moments of Sunday's NASCAR Cup race in Nashville, a fierce contest for the top five positions culminated in a dramatic crash. Tyler Reddick, who had fresh tires, attempted to navigate between Chase Elliott and Shane van Gisbergen as they approached the finish line. The three cars were separated by a mere 0.005 seconds as they crossed the line, but the excitement quickly turned to chaos.
As the trio surged ahead, Ryan Blaney inadvertently caused a collision when he bumped Elliott, sending the latter into Reddick and leading to a violent crash against the outside wall. Although Reddick's car was severely damaged, he emerged unharmed. Following the incident, Blaney expressed concern for both drivers over the radio, stating, "Oh my god, let me know if they're okay. I did not mean to do that."
In the aftermath, Blaney took full accountability for the incident, personally visiting Reddick to convey his apologies and check on his well-being. "I was trying to push the #9 [Elliott] at the top of three wide and got Chase sideways, which ended up hooking Tyler," he explained. "I hope he's okay... I'm proud of the fight from my No. 12 guys."
Elliott shared his relief about Reddick's safety, noting, "I'm glad to hear Tyler's okay. That had to be a big hit... Ryan was trying to push me to the line and got out of shape. The 45 was just kind of in the way unfortunately." Reddick himself, while initially upset, later downplayed the incident, recognizing it as a typical racing scenario and acknowledging Blaney's prompt apology.
Despite the crash, Reddick was more frustrated with the impact on his points in the standings, particularly as Denny Hamlin, the race winner, closed the gap to 97 points in the regular season title chase. "We had a much better car than a sixth-place car, and lost a lot of points to Denny tonight. Can’t keep doing that," he lamented.
