Ryan Gerard Reflects on Unacceptable Mistake During Third Round of Charles Schwab Challenge

Ryan Gerard finds himself just one stroke behind the leader, Eric Cole, as he heads into the final round of the Charles Schwab Challenge. The 26-year-old golfer turned a potentially solid performance into an impressive one by finishing strong with birdies on his last two holes during a challenging day on the course in Fort Worth, Texas.

Despite the difficulties faced by all players on Saturday, Gerard demonstrated remarkable mental resilience, a crucial trait for success in golf. His late surge undoubtedly enhances his confidence as he prepares for the concluding round of the tournament.

However, Gerard acknowledged a significant error he made early in the day. After finishing his third round with a score of 68, he opened up to the media about a sloppy bogey on the first hole. “Yeah, we made a really, really bad bogey on 1,” he said. “I hit it, I hit the wedge too far. I thought the green was going to be softer, it took a big bounce, sat straight down. I had absolutely nothing. Just kind of made a mess of the first hole. That’s not acceptable.”

Following the bogey, Gerard quickly regained his composure, making birdies on the second and third holes. “You don’t knock yourself out of it early on in the day on Saturday by making one kind of bad decision,” he emphasized. “There’s a lot of golf left to be played and a lot of opportunities.”

As Gerard looks to improve his start in the final round, he remains focused on securing his second PGA Tour victory at the Charles Schwab Challenge.
