Saints Struggle on the Road, Fall to Mud Hens in Toledo
The St. Paul Saints, who recently enjoyed a successful stretch with six wins in their last seven games, faced a setback in Toledo, Ohio, as they commenced a six-game road series against the Mud Hens. The Saints were defeated decisively, with a final score of 12-4 on Tuesday night.
The Mud Hens capitalized early, scoring three runs in the first inning, highlighted by a powerful three-run home run from Gage Workman. Although St. Paul managed to close the gap to a single run in the fourth inning, thanks to an RBI groundout from Kyler Fedko and a sacrifice fly by Aaron Sabato, Toledo quickly extended their lead in the bottom of the same inning.
St. Paul’s offense featured a two-run homer from Tanner Schobel, but the Mud Hens continued to dominate, adding a four-run inning in the seventh to seal the victory. Kaelen Culpepper stood out for the Saints, contributing two of the team's four hits throughout the game.
Starting pitcher Ryan Gallagher (2-2) struggled, allowing seven runs on eight hits over five innings. In relief, Andrew Bash yielded one run in his inning, while Alejandro Hidalgo faced difficulties, giving up four runs in just two outs.
The Saints will look to bounce back as they continue their series against the Mud Hens on Wednesday at 6:05 p.m. CDT.
