Section 4 Track Athletes Vie for State Championship Spots

ENDICOTT, N.Y. — A significant gathering of Section 4's finest track athletes took place at Union-Endicott High School, where competitors aimed to secure their spots in the upcoming New York State outdoor track and field championships scheduled for June 13 and 14. The event showcased exceptional talent, with numerous athletes striving for top qualifying times.

In recent years, Section 4 has produced many record-breaking athletes. At the recent Need for Speed Invitational, six of these standout performers — Logan Aman from Candor, Harper Medina from Maine-Endwell, Thomas Ciaravino from Vestal, Cora Benjamin from Maine-Endwell, Grace Harkness from Chenango Forks, and Leyla Hamil from Vestal — achieved the fastest times in the state for various events, including the 55-meter dash, 300-meter run, and 600-meter run.

Among the highlights of the qualifier meet was Corning's Cella McLaughlin, who shattered the Section 4 record in the 100-meter dash with a remarkable finishing time of 11.92 seconds. Other notable performances came from Logan Aman, who recorded times of 10.50 seconds in the 100-meter dash and 21.34 seconds in the 200-meter dash, qualifying him for the state meet in Class C.

During the two-day event held on June 3 and 4, athletes competed across various divisions. The results included impressive finishes in multiple events, with participants meeting or exceeding the 2026 NYSPHSAA super qualifying standards across several categories, showcasing the depth of talent in Section 4.

This qualifier meet serves as a critical stepping stone for athletes aiming to represent their schools at the state level, confirming the ongoing strength of track and field in the region.
