Springfield Welcomes South High Grad as New Athletic Director

Springfield High School has officially appointed Dr. Ronald Gordon as its new athletic director, as announced on Friday, June 19. His appointment is set to be recommended to the Board of Education.

A proud alumnus of South High School, Gordon is currently the director of community initiatives within the Springfield City School District. In a press release, he expressed his gratitude for the opportunity, stating, “I am honored and humbled by the opportunity to serve as Athletic Director for the Springfield City School District. As a Springfield graduate, this community has played a significant role in shaping who I am." He also emphasized his eagerness to collaborate with coaches, student-athletes, families, staff, alumni, and community partners to honor the legacy of Wildcat Athletics while ushering in a new era of success.

Dr. Gordon is set to assume his new role on July 1, succeeding longtime athletic director Michael Dellapina. Prior to this, he held the position of dean of enrollment services at Clark State College, where he also served as athletic director from 2007 to 2013.

Dr. Robert Hill, CEO and Superintendent, highlighted Gordon's strong connection to the community and his impressive qualifications, stating, “Dr. Gordon's passion for Springfield, commitment to students, and proven leadership experience made him stand out throughout a highly competitive interview process.” He added that Gordon's ability to build relationships and foster collaboration will greatly benefit the district's student-athletes, coaches, and families.
