Steelers Secure Promising Punter After Buccaneers Release
The Pittsburgh Steelers have made a notable acquisition, bringing in a talented former college player from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. On Tuesday, the Steelers claimed punter Aidan Laros off waivers, prompting the team to release wide receiver Brandon Johnson in a corresponding move.
Laros, who garnered attention by being included on the Ray Guy Award Watch List in 2025, has an impressive collegiate background. He previously played for the Charlotte 49ers from 2021 to 2022, the UT Martin Skyhawks in 2023, and the Kentucky Wildcats from 2024 to 2025. Additionally, he was the first overall pick in the 2026 Canadian Football League Global Draft.
With this addition, the Steelers now have two punters on their roster: the seasoned 34-year-old Cameron Johnston and the newly acquired Laros. This setup is likely to create an intriguing competition for the punter position as the offseason progresses.
