Stephon Marbury Advocates for Knicks to Respond to Victor Wembanyama's Aggressive Play

During Game 3 of the NBA Finals, San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama drew criticism for a forceful maneuver against New York Knicks guard Jalen Brunson. As the Knicks were executing an offensive play, Wembanyama and Brunson became entangled, with Wemby appearing to push through a screen while Brunson held onto his jersey. A replay captured a significant shove to the back of Brunson’s head, causing the Knicks guard to nearly lose his balance.

After the incident, Brunson confronted Wembanyama, who seemed to dismiss the altercation with a laugh. Despite the severity of the play, referees opted not to penalize Wembanyama or review the incident for a potential flagrant foul. The Spurs ultimately emerged victorious, defeating the Knicks 115-111 at Madison Square Garden.

The incident sparked a wave of backlash, including remarks from former Knicks player Stephon Marbury, who criticized Wembanyama's actions. In a passionate video shared on X following the game, Marbury described Wembanyama’s play as "dirty" and urged the Knicks to take a stand for Brunson. “If I’m watching film, and I see Wemby throw somebody on my team … then next game I’m gonna pop him in his rib cage. so hard with my elbow that he’s gonna fall and drop to the ground,” Marbury stated.

Marbury’s comments echo a sentiment shared by others, including Brunson’s teammate Jose Alvarado, who hinted at the need for retaliation in the upcoming Game 4. The Knicks are under pressure to respond not only for Brunson but also to send a message to the Spurs. Marbury, who played for the Knicks from 2004 to 2009, remains vocal about his passion for the team, joining a lineup of former Knicks legends who have been present throughout their playoff journey.

As the fans of the Knicks continue to rally behind their team, the atmosphere is charged ahead of Game 4, scheduled for 8:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday.
