Sweden Dominates Tunisia 5-1 in World Cup Opener
Sweden kicked off their World Cup campaign with an impressive 5-1 victory over Tunisia on Sunday, showcasing a commanding performance filled with standout moments. Yasin Ayari led the charge, celebrating a remarkable brace, while Viktor Gyokeres and Alexander Isak also contributed significantly to the team's success at Monterrey Stadium.
The match began with an explosive start for Sweden, as Ayari unleashed a powerful strike from outside the box just seven minutes in, putting his team ahead. The Swedes doubled their advantage in the 30th minute when Isak, who has faced challenges with injuries during the club season, received a precise pass from Gyokeres and placed a well-aimed shot into the far corner of the net.
Despite the early dominance, Tunisia managed to respond just before halftime, with Omar Rekik scoring to narrow the gap. However, Sweden quickly regained control, as Isak turned provider for Gyokeres, allowing him to score and extend the lead further.
The match was definitively settled in the 84th minute when Mattias Svanberg, who had only been on the field for a fleeting 18 seconds, found the net. Although his initial goal was ruled offside, a video review overturned the decision, validating his strike. To cap off a stellar performance, Ayari netted his second goal of the match deep into stoppage time, firing another long-range effort into the net.
With this victory, Sweden takes the top spot in Group F, following Japan's 2-2 draw against the Netherlands. The Swedish side will next face the Netherlands on June 20, while Tunisia prepares to take on Japan.
