Tecumseh Softball Clinches Fourth State Title in Five Years

WEST LAFAYETTE — Under the leadership of coach Gordon Wood, the Tecumseh softball team celebrated a remarkable achievement by securing their seventh state title on Saturday, June 13 at Bittinger Stadium, tying a state record. Wood expressed unwavering confidence in his players, who delivered a strong performance to defeat Western Boone with a score of 7-2.

The Braves jumped to an early lead, a critical factor in their victory, as Wood noted, “(Starting fast) is always important... I think that helped us.” The team’s success can be largely attributed to a talented senior group, including Melanie Pfeiffer, Shae Bailey, Bianca Lochmueller, and Brooke Seiler, who leave a legacy of state championship appearances throughout their tenure.

In a poignant moment, the game concluded with a strikeout from Audrey Seiler, Brooke’s younger sister, marking a memorable end to their high school careers. “She’s the reason I came back,” Brooke remarked, highlighting the significance of playing alongside her sister one last time. Audrey expressed her gratitude as well, stating, “Catching me has meant everything. I know I can trust her back there.”

The Braves showcased their offensive strength with contributions from players like Kinley Hildebrand, Breann Harris, Madi Isaacs, and Shae Bailey, demonstrating the team’s depth and versatility. “They did the little things right,” Wood commented on their performance. Despite some resistance from Western Boone, including a sixth-inning RBI triple that energized their fans, Tecumseh maintained their composure and held on to their lead.

Looking ahead, the Braves will move up to Class 3A next season, but Wood emphasized that their preparation will remain unchanged. “Seven is impressive,” he acknowledged regarding their record-tying achievement, but for now, the focus is on celebrating their latest victory. With their strong leadership and determination, Tecumseh’s legacy is set to continue as they look toward the future.
