Texas A&M's Aiden Sims Out for Season Following Injury
Texas A&M has advanced to the College Station Regional Final after a commanding 17-2 victory over Texas State on Saturday night, fueled by 20 hits from their offense. Junior right-handed pitcher Weston Moss shone on the mound, achieving a career-high with 10 strikeouts despite conceding two early home runs that put the Bobcats ahead 2-0.
However, the spotlight shifted to star sophomore left-handed pitcher Aiden Sims, who has been sidelined for the past four games due to reported "tightness." This situation prompted second-year coach Michael Earley to provide vague updates as the postseason approached. Sims has been a standout player for Texas A&M throughout the season, finishing with an impressive 8-1 record and leading the team with a 3.84 ERA along with 17 strikeouts.
After the Aggies' decisive win, Coach Earley delivered the unfortunate announcement that Sims will not return for the remainder of the postseason. Although he did not elaborate on the specifics of the injury, Earley emphasized that the decision was made in the best interest of Sims, who had attempted to make a comeback but was ultimately deemed not ready to pitch. "It's just not there, and for the best interest of the kid, he's not going to pitch," said Earley.
With Sims out, the pitching roster becomes even thinner, leaving Weston Moss and Shane Sdao as the primary options, along with Gavin Lyons and Ethan Darden. Closer Clayton Freshcorn will also be crucial in securing game finishes. This situation places additional pressure on Texas A&M's offense to consistently deliver strong performances. The Aggies are set to face either Texas State or USC in the College Station Regional Final on Sunday night.
