Texas Longhorns Secure Commitment from Star Transfer Isa Torres
In a significant move within the NCAA transfer portal, Texas Longhorns head coach Mike White has announced the addition of Isa Torres, a former shortstop for the Florida State Seminoles. This announcement comes on the heels of Texas clinching back-to-back national championships, further solidifying their status as a powerhouse in collegiate softball.
Torres, who stands at 5'6", was heralded as the D1Softball National Player of the Year and is regarded as the top available prospect in the transfer portal, bringing with her one season of eligibility. Her journey comes full circle, as she originally hails from Georgetown and has been a Longhorns supporter since childhood, despite previously committing to Florida State as the ninth-ranked player in the 2023 recruiting class.
During her freshman year in Tallahassee, Torres quickly established herself as a key player, starting at shortstop and achieving a batting average of .356 with nine home runs and 57 RBIs. Her sophomore season saw her elevate her performance to new heights, breaking the school record with a .436 average while earning first-team All-America honors, alongside 95 hits and 70 runs scored.
In her junior year, Torres continued to shine, capturing both the ACC Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year awards. She set multiple Florida State records with a staggering .530 batting average, 78 runs scored, and a slugging percentage of .978. Additionally, she hit 16 home runs and recorded 56 RBIs, marking a remarkable season in her career.
With Texas experiencing a shift in their lineup due to the graduation of starting second baseman Leighann Goode, Torres is expected to compete with Vivianna Martinez for the shortstop position. Her presence will also provide added support for standout slugger Katie Stewart, who set the school record with 31 home runs in the 2026 season.
