Texas Tech's Linkin Garcia to Enter Transfer Portal, Marking a Major Departure for the Team
The NCAA transfer portal for college baseball is set to open on June 2, and Texas Tech is already bracing for a significant change in its roster. Infielder Linkin Garcia, who was recognized on the Big 12's all-freshman team, will be among the first players to enter the portal, as confirmed by a Tech official on June 1.
This past season, Garcia showcased his skills with a batting average of .338, hitting four home runs and driving in 59 runs—making him the third-highest run producer on the team. He also leads the Big 12 alongside teammate Tracer Lopez with 21 doubles. The 6-foot-5, 218-pound athlete played a crucial role for the Red Raiders, starting all 55 games in a challenging 27-28 season, with 30 appearances at shortstop and 25 at third base.
In addition to Garcia, two other players from Texas Tech, corner infielder Hollis Porter and shortstop-third baseman Luke Orfi, will also be entering the transfer portal. Both were first-year transfers and left the team early in the season, with Orfi participating in seven games and Porter in just four. Porter was particularly anticipated after a strong season at Maryland, where he hit 21 home runs and recorded 64 RBIs in 2025.
The upcoming transfer window is expected to bring significant shifts for college baseball teams nationwide, and Texas Tech will have to adjust as they navigate these changes.
