The Alabama basketball player Nate Oats calls 'one of hottest in SEC'
Alabama basketball couldn't be hotter coming off its eighth consecutive SEC victory against rival Tennessee, and it takes some hot players to pull it off.
For coach Nate Oats, there aren't many players in the SEC currently playing on a level with Crimson Tide senior guard Latrell Wrightsell.
"Wrightsell's been pretty good since he's gotten healthy. He's playing the best basketball of his career," Oats said. "Before he went on this offensive run − he's been one of the best players in the SEC here lately − he already had his defense locked in.
Wrightsell scored 25 points against the Volunteers in Knoxville on Saturday, including six 3-pointers. His scoring average has risen of late, to 13.3 points per game, and his shooting percentage from 3-point range has climbed to 37%. The timing couldn't be better for UA, as the program's training staff is having to manage an injury to point guard Labaron Philon, who played well against UT but isn't 100% healthy.
"Our defense is getting better," Oats added. "It is moving up at whatever analytics site you want to go to. It's got to continue to improve pretty drastically if we're going to make the run we're trying to make here in March."
Alabama (22-7, 12-4 SEC) plays at Georgia Tuesday night at 5:30 p.m. CT (ESPN News).
