The question is not whether Raiders need EDGE help it's how much help
With free agency a month away, it’s time to check in on the Raiders’ EDGE position to give it a condition of either Strong, Stable, Unstable, Serious, or Critical.
Starters: Maxx Crosby, Charles Snowden
Backups: Tyree Wilson, Jahfari Harvey
Free agents: Malcolm Koonce
Maxx Crosby was his usual dominant self. But he was pretty much doing it alone. He didn’t get a lot of help from the rest of the line. Koonce’s return from a lost season was supposed to boost the unit, but it didn’t. Despite getting over $10 million on a one-year deal, he only started three games and didn’t even see 50% of the snaps (44.5%). Tyree Wilson had one good game, and it was the finale when the Raiders (luckily) had already locked up for number one overall pick in the draft.
Condition: Serious
The Raiders seriously need edge rush help even with Maxx Crosby. And if he is traded – as reports have been suggesting he very well could – it becomes critical. Except with the switch to a 3-4 defense, the edge rushers they would be looking at would be outside linebackers. It would also suggest Tyree Wilson could move inside officially. Regardless, the Raiders will head into free agency with a need for edge rush help. The question is simply whether they need one new starter or two.
